Prep Guide for Photo Sessions

Before anything else…

  • Drink plenty of water throughout the week before
  • Moisturize both face and lips
  • Choose clothes that are comfortable
  • Let me know if you have questions, concerns or special requests

Coordinate, don’t match (brothers, not twins)

  • No one should be wearing the same exact color
  • Start with a basic colors and have one star
  • Mom and dad wear solids and the kiddo is in a bright pattern
  • Mom wears a bold pattern and the family wears matching solids
  • Dad wears his favorite plaid shirt and the family wears matching colors

Avoid solid or bright white

  • This messes with the exposure of the photo

Accessorize

  • Scarves, hats, jewelry, sweaters, jackets
  • Great for a punch of bold color

Add layers and textures

  • Tweed, crochet, embroidery, ruffles
  • Scarves, hats, jewelry, sweaters, jackets

Pay attention to your shoes

  • Avoid sneakers other than classic Converse or Vans
  • Don’t forget to match them, color-wise and style-wise, with your outfit
  • Fun or colorful socks are a must if they will show

  • Hanging a print in your living room? Let your décor inspire the outfit

Choose timeless clothes

  • Think about how these will “age”
  • Avoid graphics, logos, characters and labels
  • Vintage style is always a good choice
